Darthgoober's Amalgam Tourney discussion thread

oh, and anyone know how long the battles last? hopefully not until next monday. a week is a long time with only 8 posts to work with. maybe mon-sat at midnight? 😬

So let's see, two matches a week(ish). 6 + 4 + 2 + 1 = 3 + 2 +1 + 1 ....should take about 7 weeks, or less if goob decides to have shorter matches (like 5 days or so).

is the reason there is only 2 matches because of the limited number of judges?

i was pretty confused when i saw just the 2 matches this week. will there be just 3 judges/match?

That was my recommendation. 2 a week is plenty, and while 3 would speed things up by a week or so, it'll be hectic as it is with 2 (provided everyone shows up).

Also, yeah, the judges thing is rough because finding enough varied-but-committed judges is a challenge to begin with. Having 3 in a week would be a strain on goob to find judges for all of them.

I have no problem pulling judge overtime if necessary. I'd really just like to see this thing get off with no hitches. Goob's done a good job coordinating things thus far with minor issues and if the battles are being held up due to judges I'll do my part to help.

I think 2's still plenty though. We'll have to go to that in round 2 anyway (with 8 participants), so it would just be the first round. I'm cool either way, that's just my thought.

with 6 matches required, i'd just assumed 3 in each of the first 2 weeks. guess it doesn't matter TOO much, but the winners of this week's matches may have to sit around for a long time -- maybe 2 weeks or more depending on how the losers brackets are being done and depending on how long judges take to cast their votes. that in itself took a LONG time the last couple times (i think it took a full week to finally get the judges votes on the match kahn and i had against bw/nj . . . 😬 ) is there is any way THAT process at least might be sped up this time round?

So a nice break in between should hopefully be more than enough time for me to get all this shit dealt with and squared away.

I don't think you should complain DL. Scoob's written probably upwards of 30 writeups in his career....I'm sure there's a system to these things by now, so any edge you can get is a good one.
