If you took every species that the fossil record shows did exist and assume they just went extinct, there would not be enough space on the planet for all of them to live. Over 90% of all life on Earth has gone extinct. The basic facts do not support you simplistic idea.

This is what I mean: every hippo that belongs to the hippo species or kind share a common ancestor (i.e. the first hippo created by God).
But the Bible does not reveal how many individual animals (within their respective species/kind) were created.
But there still isn't any intermediate ancestor that shows that the hippo evolved from the hippo to the transitional creature, then ultimately to the whale.
