Scream wasnt anything new. I didn't think much of Scream, I thought it was Wes Cravens worse film. I mean Wes even made fun of himself in "Jay and Silent Bob strike back", in concern to the blatant comercial purpose of the Scream francise. Scream was made for the masses, people who think highly of it probably arent into horror films all that much., because there are plenty of horror fims that blow it out of the water, like TCSM 1 and Halloween 1. Scream DID get the mainstream back into slasher films, but that WASNT a good thing.
Scream is a classic example of satire. Craven really outdid himself and wrote an original and fresh script that made people afraid to answer the phone and made them laugh, as well.
I do think, however, that Scream is semi-overrated and that Craven let the success go to his head a little.
The sequels were horrible, IMO.
Hi guys, yeah, scream is a classic. It´s the first horror movie (or maybe the second) I ever managed to watch on television without my mom interfering. I admit I am not a specialist on Wes Craven, I haven´t managed to see any of the "hills-have-eyes" movies yet and only read the "house on the left" script, but the reason why SCREAM is a classic is because it´s so rediculous. You figure 50% of the villains out before 50% of the movie is over, the opening scene in part one was stupid. Nothing against Drew Barrymore, but the character she played was so dumb, I couldn´t blame the killers. I haven´t seen part three, after the first two I did not really feel the urge to do so. But, I also would say that Scream is an important part of horror movie history, it´s a classic that everybody - no matter whether it´s dumb or not - should have watched ones in their horror movie life times.
anyway, have a nice day
