If the characters defence revolves around an evolving mechanic (ie. Mind control, energy drain, or Torture) they should evolve
A hard rule is always going to fail, if graviton holds savage hulk down and torments him he will increase in strength but its all relative to the amount of time
Now if sentry has bob suppressed, then with nothing holding him back the void comes out, for bob its really just an educated rationalism on which is the better of two evils in a physical confrontation
But would you not agree it changes the whole dynamic of the thread? So for example, I used old J'onn J'onzz. He fights in character, he's generally a bit useless. The Jolly Green Buddha.
Suddenly, for whatever reason (lets just say it happens), his mental blocks are lifted, and Fernus the Burning comes out. The one who owns White Martians, and the entire JLA at once. Then the thread kinda spirals downwards.
Or, Black Alice takes on the powers of the Spectre every time she fights, that kinda thing.

Wolverine's Tp defense is his Berserker Mode
All the Berserker mode is is him acting without using his higher brain functions
The Void personality functions nearly identical in respect to TP assaults, it will emerge if the Sentry personality is comprised. If you take his defence away I'm not sure what kind of real debate could be had.
