I couldn't agree with you more. I miss the times where the most feared mutants out there were Apocalypse, Magneto, and the Shadow King. Now, there are about a dozen mutants who are far more powerful than them.
It pleases me Not. when Marvel pretty much hypes up a character for year after year

DC always hypes their characters to ridiculous levels and nobody seems to be bothered that Batman can hit Superman without breaking himself.
Mutants were made to be these unexplained powerful beings that live alongside humanity. Mutants mutating into something else makes a lot more sense then the speedforce in my opinion anyway.
Storm for the win, she can channel lightning from the storm-like core of LT and kill everything that lives, I mean she can crush Jean and Magneto by creating weather patterns that don't exist right? 🙄
