My rant on ignorant people who rant on Hip hop.

This is something that pisses me off when I see or hear it. Ignorant people who know nothing about Hip hop and sterotype it. Now i have no problem with people who don't care for Hip hop, but the fact that so many people are so ignorant towards it bothers me. My first rant goes out to people who think emceeing requires no talent. So I guess artist like Nas, Jay-z, Lupe Fiasco, Canibus, Kanye West, Ludacris, K-rino, Mf doom, Ghostface, Raekwon, Talib Kweli, Papoose, Eminem a tribe called quest, Rakim, Krs-one, Kool g rap tupac, Notorious B.I.G. and many more, are all hack musicians with no intelligence. The fact that alot of people say this, makes my jaw drop in awe. Sure anyone can make up a rhyme like " I'm hot, and I smoke pot", but emceeing requires just as much, if not more talent than using an instrument or singing. If those people who criticize Hip hop were ever to battle rap someone crappy like Nelly or Chingy, they would probaly be destroyed and embarrased in the worst way possible. Another thing that urks me is the fact that they think it's all about sex, money, drugs, killing, and bling. The subject matter is very diverse in Hip hop Songs like Jesus walks, Runaway love, Brenda's got a baby proves it. Perhaps the biggest thing that ticks me off is the hypocrits who say Hip hop is nothing but violence, but at the same time defend Metal and other forms of Rock. Now don't get me wrong I don't hate Rock, I don't listen to it but I have no right to criticize off the little I've heard, but the most violent form of Rock is far more negative than Hip hop could ever be. Hate rock with the racist lyrics and Metal that glorifies Satan makes gangsta Rap look like Barney and friends. The fact people can make such ignorant statements towards something they know nothing about just sickens me. All music is at a lower quality today, tv stations like Mtv helps to destroy it by playing garbage songs with no creativity. Am I the only one who is sickened by this type of ignorance?

Brenda's Got a Baby is probably the most overrated in terms of "messages". The constant praise it gets is ridiculous.

It's as blatant and thoughtless as every band going "Boo! Bush!". However right.

I too find it annoying that people judge hip hop off the mainstream bs they see, but you are being AS idiotic for saying metal glorifies Satan. That's the exact same argument, but against metal.

The moral of the story is, if you know next to nothing about a genre, say next to nothing, or nothing, about it.

You mostly named mainstream MCs anyway, or underground MCs that you'll have seen on this board.

If people are too lazy to realise hip hop isn't about that, they're not somebody you should want listening to hip hop anyway, the same with rock and the same with metal.

my only problem with hip-hop: it can only be funny or thought provoking. the emotive potential is less than zero.

What I find funny is that you are naming off Rap artists, and defending Hip Hop. Rap is the root, the core of all modern Urban Style music. The Hip-Hop music you are supposed to be defending is the genre about having sex, getting "grillz," how much money you have crap that you see on MTV on "Cribs" or whatever "Make you feel like a failure" show they are airing this week.

However, I can understand your point. Prejudice gets nobody nowhere.

Anywho, generalizations are bad, but they are very real.

Tons (possibly even a majority, although not likely, but possible) of hip-hop artists, mainstream and underground, glorify sex, drugs, money, and other frivilous, immature BS. Tons of metal bands, mostly death metal and black metal, glorify Satan, although most bands only do it for show and are not truely Satanist. There are severl racist rock and metal bands with their own genre, like Nazi punk and Nation Socialist Black Metal. However, most of these do not make up a majority.
