Someone told me that at the end of you only live twice (the book) Bond is left stranded on an island with amnesia
That is right
Meanwhile, the British Secret Service have learned that after attacking Blofeld's castle in Japan (chronicled in You Only Live Twice), Bond suffered a head injury and subsequent amnesia. After living as a Japanese fisherman for several months, Bond headed north, into the Soviet Union, to learn his true identity. While there, he was brainwashed and programmed to kill M on returning to England.
Hey guys. In response to the suggestion that some of the old Bond films should be re-made, I should point out that the producer of the Bond films, Barbara Broccoli, has confirmed that future instalments of the James Bond franchise will not be remakes. Besides which, I personally think that it's a bad idea; even though some of the series' entries have been less than stellar, I feel that part of the strength of the Bond series is the fact that it moves forward with the times - going backwards would be a step in the wrong direction, IMHO ...
The same is true for a lot of people I know when it comes to this film (i.e. their opinion of it changing with age). If I'm being honest, simply because it's quite downbeat (especially the ending of course), I've always kind of kept the film at arm's length, and for that reason it's the Bond film that I've watched the least; but I've been feeling for a while now that the time is right for a re-evaluation ...

I think you should re-evaluate it, you might be surprised!
I have watched all the Bond Films, and mind you none of them are bad. James Bond is a special character and every hero chosen to portray the role is selected after a thorough analysis of the image of the spy. It is only when you compare a bond film with another or when you compare two actors who have played James Bond that you come up with the quote that "The Film is Bad". "On her Majesty's Secret Service" wasn't bad at all....and why remaking bond films...they should never be remade, instead the franchise should be carried ahead. "Quantum of Solace" is already on the verge of release and will hit the theaters soon...it's high time we discussed that.

OHMSS is a masterpiece......btw it's a myth it flopped :#2 at US box office 1969 behind "Butch Sundance"
Yes , it grossed less than TB or YOLT but still made respectable biz.
The 70s would been waaay different had Lazenby continued.......
You are quite right. OHMSS is a masterpiece. It is easily one of my favourite Bond films. It is also a myth that the producers wanted to get rid of Lazenby quickly. He was actually offered a three or four picture deal. Unfortunately he thought that the Bond franchise was going to come to an end as he viewed Bond as a dinosaur!
