TPM Anakin destroyed the Trade Federation Battleship (much weaker than the Death Star) *entirely by accident*.
"oh hey, what's this button do? cool, lasers! i'm going to pull this; oh wow, it speeds me up? now this is podracing!!!"
Luke at least had some clue what he was doing.
TPM Anakin gets destroyed by his future self the second he tries to go down the trench.
No. Firstly, its apparent you don't know sarcasm when you see it, and secondly, Luke doesn't have a tenth of the natural ability that Anakin had (save for stupid ass EU books that make Luke a god). Same position you say? Ok, then right when Vader is about to kill himself, Han comes and does his thing, Anakin still succeeds.
1. It's hard to tell sarcasm over the internet, and I thought you were begin serious.
2. It doesn't matter that Anakin has more natural ability, Luke has flown more and it better at the time, plus he's a lot smarter. All TPM Anakin has flown is a podracer, every now and again, which is impressive but won't help him a lot here - it doesn't have any lasers or anything, he has never fired from any kind of flying craft before TPM. In TPM he flies a Naboo Starfighter and doesn't have a clue what he's doing, then blown up the Trade Federation Battleship by accident.
Luke, on the other hand, has spent a lot of his childhood bull's-eying womp rats in his T-16 Skyhopper and in ANH matched Han Solo in the Millennium Falcon's gun turrets, and he'd never used a gun turret before in his life. He is definitely a greater pilot that TPM Anakin. And there's no way that Luke has only 1/10 the natural flying ability that Anakin has, either, on his first try he matched Han Solo, who is a veteran pilot and very good, and he led Rogue Squadron for a while. He could likely have become the best pilot in the galaxy just like Anakin did.
TPM Anakin fails. This is not debatable.
TPM Anakin could have all the talent in the world, but that doesn't make him a great pilot automatically. To be able to fly it well, he has to have some idea how to do so, and he demonstrated no ability whatsoever to fly the Naboo fighter in TPM. Even if Vader never showed up, Anakin would still die. Luke was capable of flying around and shooting down/evading other TIEs. Anakin never came under a truly substantial assault from anything in TPM, and he never demonstrated the ability to shoot down the enemies going after his comrades. As a matter of fact, he didn't coordinate with his 'squadron' at all. The most interaction he had with them was listening to them say "wow, the battleship exploded" after he took it down by accident.
Their odds of success in this matter would be better if R2 flew the ship himself and locked the controls down so that Anakin couldn't do anything.
This whole thing is like comparing a navy pilot who just left the Academy to a twelve-year-old whose sole experience with piloting anything has been driving around in Go Kart races. Of course the kid wouldn't be able to do anything the pilot could do. The only prayer Anakin has is if the Force is with him, but the Force would be with Vader also, who would logically be there as well, and so he would fail.
