You think people are more passionate about comics than religion? ermmnone

well, I've yet to be told to P.O.A.D. (piss off and ...).
I'm halfway there, here 😄

seriously though, I entered only a few discussions there and managed to offend one person pretty gravely. though he somewhat trashed a nicely composed strawman of whatever it is I was saying that offended him so...

anyway, seriously, people are very passionate here. I find myself surprised at how quickly things turn into shouting matches 😐.

then again, maybe passion is a natural consequence of building "ordered" - pseudo-logical, vaguely reasoned - propositions on chaotic foundations ... hmm, religion and comics have common grounds! ✅

Have you seen some of the people in the religion forum? 🙁

religion is the most infuriating thing to debate because nobody ever changes their mind and while you CAN't prove God exists you also CAN"T prove he doesn't exist...oh wells

Yes religious discussion can be complex.

The religion forum is far far worse than that kind of thing.

You can't prove ANY negative. 😐.

Unless you're a god 😉

but isn't it fun to proof that Frodd could exist and that he might have written the Book of C## and that if you compile C## correctly you will have Halle Berry all to yourself in the afterlife 😄

actually, what's the difference between religious debates and comic book vs battles?

all arguments have a basic level of validity because they cannot be disproved, and there is rarely the necessary proof available to conclude a matter.

for instance, Surfer vs Superman. we're pretty much agreed that Surfer beats Superman, but that's only 'cos we are reasoning in a specific way, and taking the ambiguities that exist, out of consideration.

not saying all arguments are equally valid (BP arm lock, breaks that proposition down) but that there are very few conclusive and irrefutable positions.

but in comic books, there's a thing called canon and arguements can be proven wrong. On-panel feats are the higher authority. In religion, the books all disagree with each other and the canon makes no sense. 😛 and you can never truly prove someone wrong.

I believe this is where the terms PIS and CIS come in, to thoroughly bugger the notion of cannon and on-panel coherence 😛

Surfer - Black Panther, Spiderman - cement - Juggernaut, Hulk - Namor, Squirrel Girl - ... anybody 😐. ...

comic books and religion ... the parallels abound! ✅
