doomsday is stronger than the hulk. how can he enter full rage mode any way? i thought his rage was "limitless" as some fans like to call it.

Hulk is possibly not as strong as DD initially, but definitely will end any fight way stronger than DD.

leaving aside pedantism, what possible reason can you have to testing strength with a being of infinite strength?

Wrong..DD has the same ability to get stronger the madder it gets as well in addition to adapting on the fly.
