How? It's their character isn't it?
Originally posted by steverulesI believe they had to renew the rights from the person, family or trust who first created the character and they let it lapse for whatever reason.
I am confused as to how they lost the rights to a character they made 😕
Originally posted by StarsNeverFall7I asked the comic store people and that's the info they had. Remember, the character is older than our parents. Maybe it was just the way things were done.
Didn't Marvel create the character? If so, shouldn't they have sole rights to him?
I have a message to Marvel......BEWARE! Dur's comin' to get ya!

Well the creator alleged that he created the character on his own prior to working for Marvel so he's saying that the character is really his, Marvel at the time just let him publish Cap storys.
Marvel and Simon have been in court before and at first Marvel won but now the previous decision has been reversed so Simon has a chance to go back and sue for the rights of the character. If he wins this time it means the Captain America name can't be used by Marvel (though I doubt that'll happen, Marvel will either settle if they don't think they can win but I feel they can). Here's the link to the whole thing.
Originally posted by Redatom65Well the ads marvel was putting out were also striking similar, showing Tony with Caps shield, Punisher with caps shield, etc.
I made that joke when he first died. I posted it like 12 times. Ercaperator, Private America, Antamatium, Cyborg Cap....
Originally posted by marvelprinceThe guy who created Ghostrider is suing Marvel as well.
