Yes, for sure she took it away because everyone would have known he was a pirate (she tells him this) but, actually what I meant was: She lied/betrayed Will two times and Jack only one time, although it was more cruel. It's just making my wonder why this way and not the way around? Why not betraying Jack two times? Why Will?
And was it a coincidence that she had put it on this day or was it fate? Jack wouldn't have been interested in her if she didn't have the medallion, or what do you think?
Well, this probably isn't the best thread to talk about the whole "fate intervening" scene, but I think I can talk about it from a willabeth standpoint.
Okay, Beckett has arrested Will and Liz and they both take up for Jack by making sure he's referred to as captain, to which Beckett kind of smirks and looks at them. He's familiar enough with Jack to know that Jack's been around the block more than a few times. So it's natural to assume that he at least made a pass at Liz during their previous adventures.
That said, Liz had a gun to Beckett's head. She's also a threat to his plans. He needs to gain the upper hand in the situation, and since he can't hurt her for the moment, the only thing he can do is psychological warfare. He's also fishing for information. He implies that she has feelings for Jack to gauge her reaction and distract her. I think Beckett is hoping the whole time that either Liz or Jack will reveal they like each other so he can use it against them.
I think he's just trying to figure things out rather than actually suspecting anything...and I don't think he cares too much if something were going on between them, seeing as he knows he can never have Jack for himself and therefore must die! 😉
Okay, I'm extending my hand in friendship here, hoping we can have a good-natured debate.
You say she kisses/shackles Jack to save herself, the crew, and Will. Okay. She says to him, "it's after you, not the ship." But, she was the only one who saw that at least for a little while, Jack was not on the ship when the kraken attacked. I know the movie plays Jack continuously afraid of the kraken, but doesn't that attack prove that the kraken is after the Pearl, assuming Jack is on board? Doesn't that prove that Liz is the only one who knows that and therefore would be the last person to even think of killing him if they were going to abandon ship?
Again, I respect willabeth and willabethers. Just deciding to have some discussion.
2, count 'em, 2! Okay, Elisabeth knew that the Kracken was after Jack becos he told 'em so when they dug up the chest--she sorta knew about Jack's deal with the Pearl/Davey Jones, or possibly all of it, depends--so that's why she said that--in her mind Jack and the Pearl were one entity--
I also think she betrayed Jack twice, the first being the rum island big burn was flat out a big hickey on their interactions.
*smiles* I can to friendly debates 😄
Yes but the Kracken just does what Davy Jones tell's it to, so therefore it's attacking the and maybe Liz knows that. And she probably figured after it got done when the Pearl and found out Jack wasn't there then it would go after them but if it got Jack it wouldn't care about the rest of them.
Well maybe she betrayed him on the island but it got them off it, I mean it he want to still on that island?
I'm in favor of friendly debate...
the fact is that will's line. 'we can get away while it takes down the pearl..." gives elizabeth no reason to shackle jack. if neither davy or the kraken know that jack isn't still on that ship ...too late by the time they realize it don't you think?
and in the commentary i remember the writers saying that once two characters have such an amazing chemistry you have to give them a kissing scene. true...now we need a situation that stays true to all the characters.
elizabeth can justify this for herself by thinking that she won't only slake her lust and drown it but also save the man she loves (doesn't think that she might feel guilty after), jack would've kissed her before but in this situation he becomes the good man she said he was in the curiosity scene so he takes his prize...
at this point SHE was the one who was right. he IS a good man...and then she shackled him and jack realizes he was right too! she IS a pirate.
they were both right. in the curiosity scene they try to convince the other (and themselves) that they aren't what they seem. they were both right.
sorry for the rambling...now will? he still loves elizabeth and his most heroic act is to offer to bring jack back even though he hates him at the moment. sure, later he ruins it by making it about the pearl and backstabbing everyone but at the moment his offer is just to comfort jack.
elizabeth obviously loves willy but her relationship with jack is left unresolved...
Perhaps that was the intention!!!
Even though Liz is married to Will, he can not set foot on land for 10 years!
And even though Jack's ship was stolen yet again at the end, he didn't seem quite so pissed or heartbroken about it...in fact he seemed like he quite anticipated it by cutting out the map! The fact that he is humming the song that Elizabeth taught him, leaves the impression that he is thinking about her and that he isn't in a horrible mood! and as soon as he realized his ship was missing, he seemed to know exactly what he was doing! There was no mourning period or a "What Now" moment as if he had already planned it. Just a small scene with Gibbs and the girls (probably just for the sake of being able to say he freaked out, when he wasnt at all freaked out), then proceeded to be completely honest with the girls as if saying goodbye, then said goodbye to Gibbs who let Jack's ship get away (shouldn't Jack be furious with him?) instead NO He isnt. They share a moment of understanding "Take What You Can, Give Nothing Back!" and then Jack goes on his way. By this time he knows his ultimate destination is the Fountain of Youth, but also knows he is going to need help from a higher power, a certain Pirate King perhaps with a ship to spare! He sails into the horizon with a smile on his face, ready for a new adventure.
So with that said, it isn't hard to come to a hinted conclusion by the clues in the movie, that Jack has Lizzie on the brain by singing their song, knowing that Will wont be around for another decade and with his motto in mind "Take What You can, Give Nothing Back!" i don't have a doubt in mind that Jack and Elizabeth's paths will cross again!
So by leaving the movie opened ended the way they did not only did it give Willabether's their ending but in away they gave us Sparrabethers a chance to dream as well, a Sparrabeth ending of sorts also! Don't you think?
that IS true...actually the ending was fine. the MOVIE was horrible (i almost cried when i saw hundreds of moron jacks running around) it had some really good dialogue, laughs, action, some good plot points but then it wasn't DELICIOUSLY complicated like DMC or COTBP...you know? it was just like they wanted to tie the loose ends.
If COTBP was act I (characters meet and plot was introduced) and DMC was actII(conflict is introduced) then AWE was definitely the final act(resolution to conflict)
the first two movies did what they had to but the last one there? even if it was a resolution it didn't grip u. it was IMPOSSIBLE to get bored during the first two movies.
i always hoped for an ending that would allow ur imagination to flow...and we got it but honestly? i DO love AWE (deep down) but it had SO MUCH potential.
the WE relationship in COTBP was cute. it was the perfect movie, action, romance and comedy. it was a willobeth movie but it had the perfect touch of JE 'comdey'
Ya W/E in COTBP was cute! But when the movie was done, and I know I have said this a million times before, I was left wondering what happened between Jack and Elizabeth? I was ok with Willabeth in COTBP bc it was a stand alone movie so i had accepted it but I had all these closeted feelings for Jack and Lizzie and so when DMC rolled around and I saw the teeny clip of Jack and Liz moving toward each other as if to kiss my heart sank and I got all excited and I was hooked! lol...Obsessed if want to call it! lol
i knoooow! even though i was okay with WE in COTBP...when Jack said the famous 'it would never have worked..." line i was like 'OMG! if they're poking fun at that...i wasn't imagining the thing on the island!!"
my cousin who was way younger than me when we first saw it in the cinema didn't get the humor in that line and actually asked 'wait! why didn't it work between them? i thought elizabeth was kinda in love with him."

Really unique, interesting vid, explores all aspects of love in POTC. willabeth, but it's too intriguing to pass up.
