Ray Stevenson? I like it! If Jane isn't doing the role, he's a good replacement. He was very big and threatening on 'Rome'; a badass centurion who was also kind and loving to his family.

Ray Stevenson is supposed to take over the role.

I wish they'd just pick ONE actor and stay with it. I mean, I realize that Tom Jane apparently chose to pull out of the project, but still... It makes me angry when there's not that consistancy.

yeah, he was a great battle hardened Roman soldier

Titus Pullo himself wil make a great vigilante.

Oh snap!! he's the guy from Rome...good pick.

These punisher movies are getting like the 007 movies only thing is they change them after every movie instead of a couple.

Or like the first Batman Quadrilogy, which had three different actors. By Batman & Robin, Roger Ebert remarked how each film is more about the Batman suit now, and less about the actor inside playing him.

So, Tom Jane pulls out because he wants to stay true to the comics and the script sucked. So instead of waking up and smell the script and make a good one they simply hired some other actor. disappointing.

I guess Tom Jane was waiting for a long time, passing up projects until the script was right to him. Perhaps he couldn't wait any longer, and signed up for something before they got their acts together.

But that's not why he pulled out. He pulled out simply because he had put a lot of effort in getting into shape, reading Punisher comics etc to make a better Punisher performance. He even wrote a letter about it to aintitcool.com:

After busting my ass at the gym four days a week for almost two years, watching every character driven action pic that any fan would ask me to watch while I was standing in line buying egg whites and Tuna fish (Leon the Professional, Oldboy, The Seven-Ups (GREAT flick), Point Blank, Escape from NY, The Driver, Magnum Force, The Mechanic, The Great Silence, Sexy Beast, Nighthawks, Cry Vengeance (check it out), Road Warrior, Man on Fire, Outlaw Josey Wales, Rocky (think about it), Serpico, etc etc etc.) after countless Saturday nights making notes and drinking soda water and munching on seaweed sticks while my daughter slept on my lap to the sound of automatic gunfire, (now she can’t sleep without it. I had to make a tape of automatic gunfire to play in her room at night) after hauling myself to any ‘Guns! Knifes! Ammo!’ show in any small town that I found myself in shooting Killshot or The Mist or Mutant Chronicles, after torn ligaments, screwed up rotator cuffs, thousands of $$$ on ridiculously huge vitamins, overly long conversations with frighteningly tall men about The Fastest Way To Kill Someone With Your Bare Hands, and after a dude refused to sell me a Fatburger at 2am on Santa Monica Blvd, I am, sadly – no, make that heartbrokenly – **** it - just rip out the heart and stomp it into the pavement a couple of times – pulling out. Punisher fans are already fighting an uphill battle as it is. And I’ve always felt a responsibility to fight that fight for them and with them so that Frank Castle gets the treatment he deserves.

I'm sharing this with you because I know you're a fan, like me, and you've got your ear to the ground, and because we seem to share the same sort of taste and passion when it comes to movies and stories that get us off. What I won't do is spend months of my life sweating over a movie that I just don't believe in. I’ve always loved the Marvel guys, and wish them well. Meanwhile, I’ll continue to search for a film that one day might stand with all those films that the fans have asked me to watch.

Sincerely,
Thomas Jane

Pretty nice to see an actor that cares that much about a movie, however the scriptwriters should rather make a new script to get him back then just hiring a new one.

The Punisher 2 should stay true to the character. Levi Alexander wants an R rating.so I would expect a lot of violence.

That's a nice public relations move, saying it to the fans. But behind the scenes, he was putting his career on hold waiting for the script to be right. I think he just couldn't wait any longer and signed a contract to do some role right now; it makes as much sense as quitting on some principle.
