Basic Knowledge
Each side receives basic knowledge of the other. A good measure of this would be what the general population of the character's homeworld knows. For example, that Superman has a weakness to Kryptonite is general knowledge, but that he's Clark Kent is not.

Batman comes to the battle having programmed an orbitting satellite to shoot out a gamma supressing/inhibiting ray over a 200 mile footprint, at the centre of which is The Bronze (the club from Buffy, right?).

Hulk turns into Banner, is bewildered at what he's doing there, sees a man in a batsuit with a gun in his hand. Batman shoots, Banner dies... Hulk cannot reemerge because of the gamma inhibiting satellite. Banner is buried in a cemetary in the 200 mile footprint.
