Pre-Zero Hour Mordru would have conquered the Universe if it wasn’t for the Time Trapper shaping things so that the Legion would exist. When the Time Trapper was killed, the future changed and Mordru was ruler of the Universe.

Mordru is an abstact. Not just a low one. He's a magical AND cosmic being all rolled into one. On top of that, he's the most poweful lord of Chaos. Able to pwn other powerful lords of Chaos and add thier power to his own. Thanos falls.
