I think the common explanation is that Superman keeps getting stronger the longer he’s exposed to solar energy, so his resistance to kryptonite also becomes stronger. It doesn’t really make much sense but then again most things Superman does don’t make much sense.
Like containing a black hole with his bare hands. 😆
