NRAMA: This issue was a rough time for Mr. Mxyzptlk, to put it lightly, which was interesting because this issue was pretty much all Paul Dini, with assists from Keith Giffen…DD: Yeah, the issue had some larger purposes, and bringing Mxy in helped out with all of them – originally though, he was someone who was new to the story, so it allowed us to recap the story, but that went to the wayside when we changed #26 slightly and did the recap with the Monitors. Now, this issue became more about Mxy, who is a character with infinite power versus another character who appears to have at least virtual infinite power in his own right. In showing how Superman Prime dealt with Mxy, it was a great counterpoint to how Superman would deal with the same character. It helped define and further separate who Superman and Superman Prime are.
So Dan Didio describes Mxy as being a character with infinite power and Superman Prime a character who appears to have at least virtual infinite power. 🙂

Ah crap.I forgot that there was an Ion comic, so unfortunately, Yat probably doesn't die after his fight with Superman Prime. 🙁
He is also slated to appear in the upcoming GLC's, even after 18 which features the Prime/Ion fight.
Hence, he'll be around for at least another year or so, I'd say.
Spoilers:
Spoiler:They start above New York, head to the Croton-on-Hudson area and fight in the water, then to the Buchanan NY Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant, then finally to the Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, fighting in the crypts and stuff, until Prime defeats Sodam. Prime then flies up holding a comatose Sodam while John and Guy fly towards them. Although Prime is bloody, he's smiling and asking "who's next".
A lot of it was interspersed with Yat's childhood on Daxam, leading up to him getting the ring.
I wouldn't say Yat was completely trounced by Superboy. He gave a pretty good fight, and got some really solid blows in, but Superboy just kept coming and wouldn't tire.
Spoiler:
No real feats of strength, just them pummeling each other. At one point, Yat gets thrown into a nuclear reactor, and Prime spears him with some Uranium rods......glowing, yellow rods.....which look suspiciously like those things that were being poked into him by the Children of the Lobe in the Alan Moore prophecy........HOLY COW, I didn't make the connection until now! Cool!!Ahem
Anyway, I guess the coolest feat of strength is Yat shoving one of those rods into Superboy's mouth. He actually "eats" the rod, says yum, and keeps pummeling Yat.
Spoiler:
Superman Prime utilizes Yat's lead weakness in the nuclear reactor

I haven't read the issue yet. Did Superman Prime use the lead weakness against Yat?
If so, I'm not buying that as a legitimate excuse for him losing. He has the power of Ion for Christ's sake.
