Well that's simple, the author thought that it would add to the whole plot of the story and the characters you mentioned. That fear that Lothar had for Medivh certainly did make him wary of what to do. Luckily for Anduin Medivh would vanish years later.What he told Khadgar was what the author made him tell Khadgar, and it really changed my thoughts on Lothar after I read it.
