You mean you would pull a gun on someone who threaten your daughter? Give them what they want. Money, gear, the car, the house. What if the threat is sincere, you shoot and he survive long enough to prove it?

Are you really willing to risk your daughters life because of your rights? Because of your talents as a shooter? What if it is a blackout and the room turns dark the moment you are about to pull the trigger. What if the thief suffer a disorder and cringes the second before you shoot. What if a vandal teenager throws a rock through your window.
