Anyways, while I wont be very active this year, I would like to offer my two cents on new rps.
Basically, I think a new and original story idea should be top priority. Games based on popular franchises are ok, but I think something new, with a new twist, would make for a better rp for drawing and maintaining a crowd.
As we all know, creating a new story has its obvious problems. In order to make the world authentic, every tiny detail must be considered. My Dragon Legion RP was a good example of months of preparation, where I tried to think of every small issue, every minute problem that could present itself within the game's story. Everything from the economy to the mail system to politics was considered with an eye for accuracy. Unfortunately, my hundred or so pages of info was lost, and I haven't had the heart to recreate everything. 🙁
Despite my belief, I have to say that Teen Titans has been doing good, and it should continue because, even though it is based on an existing story, it has great new characters. I've been playing DnD with my housemates recently, and what I have found is that even though the story is simple and pre-constructed, its the character's that are making it a brand new experience.
I'll admit that this all sounds contradictory, but I believe that if a new story concept is combined with emphasis on creating great characters, an amazing game can be made.
