Honestly it's no different than eating cow.

No, I've not eaten dog meat before, but it's just another animal.

You only get all defensive about people eating dog because you consider pets off limits. Had you been raised thinking cows were nothing but a pet then you would be crying about another country making hamburgers out of them.
