doesn't matter, we can just do a 50 or a 100 battle and it auto ups or lowers all mons to that level

I always liked Miltank because of the way it looks. I want that and a Purugly. A Luxray and Haunter would also be nice on my squad of faves.

Challenge: Can you explain IVs and how they work in two paragraphs? I think I understand the EV training and all like fighting Ghastlys gives you like a bunch of points for Sp Atk when you level up and all.

IV's are invisible numbers from 1 to 31 which rate each of your stats. A 31 in HP means you will have the highest amount of HP possible for that pokemon, while a 0 means ..The opposite. You have an IV for every stat, whcih will determine your total without EV's.

When you breed, the egg takes 3 random IV's from each parent, but sometimes these overlap, so it can seem like you only get as many as 3, at times, or you get the bad IV's. IV breeding is basicly breeding for the good ones.

It's harder to get Def/HP IV's for some reason, but Sp.Def has the normal probability.

Obviously I don't battle often. I have 4 badly trained pokemon. No legendaries.

Red Steel 2 looks admittedly epic.

I never use legendaries on my teams. Badly trained mons huh? and only four? ๐Ÿ™ I have a team of six that I want to try out against people who don't already know my entire setup.

Edit: Feel free to fill up the other slots with Lugia or Ho-oh or something

Two paragraphs, you win. So is there any way to tell what they are exactly when I view one of my little pocket monsters?

Yes, actually.

Step one: In your pokemon's summary are interesting details like "Mischievous", or "Likes to thrash about", this tells you what your best IV is, and the second digit of that IV. For more info on this: http://www.smogon.com/ingame/guides/breeding_guide_part1
Likes to thrash about: second digit in attack is 1. Means your highest IV is in attack, and it's either 1, 11, 21, or 31.

Also, in HG at the battle tower, there's a guy called the judge next to the computer who will rate your pokemon. There's a chart on the page I linked that you'll find helpful, but he says things a little differently than the guy in Emerald did.
"It can;'t be better in that regard" means a perfect IV.

Also, there's a java applet IV calculator on the internet, which requires you to know your pokemon's exact EV's, and works better when your pokemon is a higher level. Read: hard to arrange. But it is fairly accurate, and can tell you the ball park of your IV's.

Edit: there are a couple items that are very helpful in breeding and IV training that I can send your way once you have a pal-pad. I do expect battles once you've used them to train a team, though. ๐Ÿ˜›
