Text is actually very difficult to do well. I love typography and I still struggle some with it.
Basically, basic is usually better, go with colors that match what you're working on, and play around with the placement until it works.
Like, on that sig, I would have left off the box around your name, put it up towards the middle of the right side, maybe went with all caps or all lowercase, increased the spacing on the letters, and used a sort of medium soft brown for the color itself. Give those things a try and I almost guarantee it'll look better.
Edit: This is an example of the sort of stuff I can do with text. I managed to just about perfectly replicate the logo text and effect.
(and yes, I blurred out the bottom there, I don't need you guys knowing the phone number of my store ๐)
