I cannot recall how long I played the first one for, but a playthrough in 2 takes me about 40 or so hours. Actually, IIRC, the first one takes 50ish. Though of course I often do optional shit. Mass Effect has one of the greatest plotlines in gaming. The writing is superb.
Lack of difficulty and length seems to be a general problem. I've also never found one with a particularly engaging story either, but I suppose I can't blame that on the genre.I still don't know anything with M and J. And yes, biased opinions ftw.
Also, SI. So, Shivering Isles I guess.

Wait, Mass Effect isn't even on the PS3, is it?
I recommend playing them on 360, and playing the first one, entirely because it makes the sequel better.

I thought Mass Effect was an FPS game...Why would I enjoy Final Fantasy...ten? X is ten, right?
Oh, apparently I cannot try Mass Effect then.
Mass Effect is a shooter with some half-assed RPG elements, in my opinion. ME2 is even less of an RPG.
And because FFX is an amazing game, that's why. The leveling system in FFXIII (the Crystarium) is directly based on the Sphere Grid from FFX. And the characters, plot, and gameplay are all far superior.
