Lara will be more awesome come the reboot, I think. I don't care for the current series (tried Legend, wasn't wowed), but from a design standpoint I like what they're trying with the more human Lara.
FemShep is superior to MaleShep.
Ruby from WET was pretty cool, although a bit too Tarantino.
Faith from Mirror's Edge was just a bit too bland.
Amaterasu.
Elika and Farah from the PoP series. Tamina in the movie wasn't bad either.
Assassin's Creed has few women at the forefront, but the ones seen are all pretty badass. Lucy in the present and Claudia and Caterina in the Renaissance stand out particularly. Apparently Maria was pretty awesome in Bloodlines, too.
EDIT: Oh, Tear in Tales of the Abyss was good too, despite having the Most Common Superpower and being the love interest.

Don't forget Rosa, and Fiora in Project Legacy ๐
The problem with Rubi was what I said about what wasn't the problem with Faith. And Tarantino doesn't have that problem with his female characters.
I did like the game though, it was genuinely fun, and I did enjoy the style and the Tarantioesqueness...they just should have made Rubi a bit more likable...
I mean the same problem exists for male action heroes, but I guess since there's so much less female ones it is sad to see it happening so often there.

I play stuff that the typical Halo and Call of Duty fan would avoid. So, good games mostly.
Well, that's a very vast field, I believe I fall into that category myself, but could you perhaps give examples of games that best embody what games are all about for you?

Zelda, inFamous, Mario, Ratchet and Clank, for a few examples.
