Gears > Your favorite games

edit- Polaski agrees. Women's opinions count for twice as many points.

If it ain't on PC, then who cares?

I er... 'concur.'

Anyone seen Twin Peaks?

Edit:

In Japan, the default is for voice actors to all be in the room recording together. In the US, the default is for them to come in separately.

A couple years ago I was at a convention and attended a fascinating voice acting panel run by two industry veterans. They told us that for video game dubbing, it is actually distressingly common for the actors to be given ONLY their own lines, so they don't even know what the characters to whom they are supposedly responding are saying! For one game, one of them was actually given only her own lines, not even in chronological order as they appeared in the storyline, but in alphabetical order by the first word of each line. I don't know whose brilliant idea that was, but ever since I learned this, I've cut video game voice actors a bit more slack. Imagine attempting to record your lines completely divorced from any concept of what the context for them is supposed to be...

Huh, I didn't know this.

I guess this explains why DP's voice acting is so good. The Japs made it and used their superior voice acting techniques!

Of course you do. You have seen the light; you have seen the truth.

Yep. Twin Peaks was awesome(especially the 1st season). This game looks like a crappy imitation of Twin Peaks.

Interesting indeed. From the clips I've seen though, DP's voice acting seemed sub-par.

Just started playing L.A. Noire, enjoying it thoroughly.

Actually, Neph, that method of group voice acting is why Batman and Gargoyles were so well-acted. The voice actors recorded their lines with each other, when it was common practice for them to record separately.

The smart non-Japanese companies do it that way.

If I were directing voice actors, I'd only give them a vague context of the scene and their own lines. No need for them to know what the other person is planning to say since you so rarely do in real life. 😛

In the same room though. I'm not getting a large number of rooms for those douches.

(Yes, Deadly Premonition has quite a bit in common with Twin Peaks)

Yeah, I'm frankly shocked that it isn't more common. Is it too costly or are people just incompetent I wonder.

If I had to guess, I say it's schedule differences or similar. Not every actor has the same amount of time to work.

Reviews don't mean shit to me, because Demon's Souls got an assload of perfect and great ratings.

Probably because it's a great game.

I'm just saying, have you never once, after hundreds of millions of people called your taste shitty, instead of saying they all have the bad taste, thought,"Well, maybe it's me?"

Think about that. estahuh

PCs are for sissies and rabbits though.

I can't imagine that voice actors have especially busy schedules. Its not like that many games come out every year. How many projects do they work on at a time? Plus quality should trump convenience every time.

No I'm sticking with incompetence.

Your post implies there is some weird line existing between videogame voice actors and other voice actors.

There exists no such line.

Scott McNeil for instance has worked in anime, videogames, as well as Western animation.

Haha.

Hmm, you seem to be misguided enough to think you can tell me what to do.

PCs are too expensive. Well, a decent gaming one anyway.

Well, I can. I knew from the start you lacked the good sense to listen, but I can surely tell you.

Oh, the irony.

Painful isn't it?

This so-called Japanese way of voice acting does sound so much better. If I had to guess why it's not done more often, I'd say it's less convenient and probably more costly. Be as it may, DP(and we all know what else DP stands for) doesn't make the superiority exactly obvious.

Personally I think York and Emily have really good voice acting. Very natural. Plus I just love Yorks goofy stage whispers. :3
