If a character is from a book but the book is based on the game (Official novel), does the rule that it must originate from a video-game still apply?

If the character your talking about is not so much different from the game it was based on, then the rule does not apply(i think). but if the characters are so different that it seems like a totally different character, then the rule does apply and you cant use that character.

The character has to originate in a game. Character that originated in a book based on a game really isn't allowed.

But if the book and the game is linked? The book not only tells of events in the game, but even relive some of them in even further detail. The book also brings up character already mentioned in the game either directly, indirectly or events that the character in question has caused, although the character never was encountered before the book (Although after). At later dates, after the the book was written and published, these characters were brought into the game and if spoken to, bring up events that took place in the book.

I am of course talking about the Warcraft books. Would for instance Broxigar the Red, or Ner'Zhul be allowed in threads?

People actually read those books?

And it's really very simple. If they did not originate in a game, they are not allowed. Last I checked, game-based media is not a game.

Those are amazing books that I strongly recommend. The Last Guardian is a masterpiece, both written as such and has an enchanting developing story.

But to be honest, I do not find it as simple as you may do. Does the character has to be a visual encounter with first appearance in a game, or will it do for as long as the character is a matter of discussion in the game or his work is of significance to the game while that character himself made his first real appearance in a book.

Besides, the books originate from the game. The authors gives life to the lore Blizzard share with them. You are even able to find the content of the books in an official lore section at the official website of Warcraft, that brings up the characters and events that took place in the books (That are based on the games). Feels a little silly to be for example allowed to use Gul'Dan in a thread but not Ner'Zhul, his master.

I'm not going to read books based on something I don't like, sorry.

And it is that simple. A character's first appearance must be in a game. Only the games themselves are considered canon in this forum, regardless of their actual canonicity. I don't care what Blizzard puts in their lore section. Those are the rules for this forum.

If for example Ner'Zhul is mentioned but not seen in a game, does it still count?

Is their first appearance in a game?

That is all that matters in determining if a character is allowed here.

Does being mentioned by words or narrator count as appearance? Or do they have to be present in "flesh and blood" (If they have any). For example if Ner'Zhul is mentioned between campaigns, or by various characters, does that include as having an apperance?

Is it the first time they are ever mentioned or appear?

I'm really not sure where the difficulty in "must originate in a game" is.

If I do not understand, I must be allowed to ask, right? If I am to follow the rules I must understand them. Ner'Zhul is brought to subject by characters and narrators in the game but not actually seen in the game. Does that make his first appearance in the game, or in the book before the first game he was actually seen in?

Yea, i get what your saying. i would think that mentioning them is good enough to count as originating in a game, but ultimately peach and gk have the final decisions.

You are not going to get Peach to change her stance on the rules.

But if the first mention of them was from a game, I would think they would be allowed.

I am NOT trying to get anyone to change anything. I simply had and still might have a hard time understanding it fully. I merely want to understand it, nothing more, so I do not violate it.

They have to in some way originate in a game, period.

If their first time being mentioned is in a game, they are a game character.

Besides, Nerzhul is also an incredibly important character in Warcraft.

One of the most important, yeah. His actions had vast significance to what Warcraft lore is today.
