Newport Harbor: The "Real" Orange County

Grr...

Here is a link to a newspaper article from the local paper regarding the new MTV show, 'Newport Harbor: The Real Orange County.'

The hype of the hip

I attended Newport Harbor High School, and now I get to watch as it's already sullied reputation gets annihilated completely, thanks to kids that I knew as little snobs while I attended. Hell, I know Clay personally; he's a jock and an idiot, and now he will be known as 'The Hottest Guy at Harbor.'

Good things come to those with money!

It will not portray my hometown or my high school accurately whatsoever. I've already watched the trailer, and I'm bleeding from the ears thinking about it.

Random Girl: What high school did you attend?
Jordan: ...Newport Harbor.
Random Girl: z0mg! u noe Clay?! he is so hawt! lawlz!
Jordan: *cries uncontrollably*

How about the rest of you? What do YOU all think about this? Should pampered little brats with generic (and scripted) teenage drama be made television show stars, when MTV said they were not going to focus on that?

Hi REX, This sounds interesting but to watch these guys attempt to act is probably going to funny. At least the other show MTV had had a babe or two. Definitely pampered brats should not be made into stars. My father has always said that "they make stars out of garbage", I think that that saying applies to this brand new show.

Premiered tonight. Anyone catch the pointless drama?

I watched it. Chrissy's hot. Stale acting.

Can't disagree with Chrissy being attractive, but she's also kind of a little skank, which I find unattractive. ermm

Thats a trait I never look for in women.

Liar. You love Jacen Solo.

Is there a token black guy in the show, REX?

Liar. You love Jacen Solo.

WHAT??

wow...

I don't mean to sound like "ZOMG, YOU, LIKE, KNOW THE CAST, THAT'S LIKE, AWESOMEEEE!"

But I'd like to ask you a question. Just how "real" is this show? Just how pampered are these kids in real life? This is confusing the heck outta me.I've heard that this show was completely scripted, and that these kids are paid actors (which is believable by the way)

One person said that they were stuck in their house because the camera crew had the kids drive up the driveway seven times to get it just right.

And does this show portray Orange County,or more specifically, Newport Harbor as it really is?

Just wondering.People are really angry because they say that this doesn't represent Newport or Orange County at all.

Hey Silentwhisper! I can definitely answer that for you...

While these kids really are pampered, MTV probably takes it to the next level. I don't recall any of them being allowed to go to Palm Springs to get hotel rooms before MTV stepped in.

As for being scripted, it is very much so. The relationship between Clay and Chrissy is utterly false, seeing as Chrissy already has a boyfriend off the show anyways! He will not be mentioned in the show, of course.

The kids are not actors; they tried to get onto the show and were successful, but have had no prior acting experience. They do come up with their own dialogue, which is why the dialogue is dull and uninteresting, but MTV tells them what, exactly, they need to be talking about.

It doesn't represent Newport Harbor, Newport Beach, or Orange County at all. We're not all football jocks or pampered princesses.

Look at me, I'm the moderator of a movie message board. I was in band for all four years of high school, I play the clarinet, I'm an extreme nerd, and my family is far from wealthy.

thanks!

Thanks Captain REX for answering that question for me! Now I know not to believe reality shows when they say everything is "real."

I've always thought that "reality tv" was nothing but staged television. At least some of the girls are hot.
