Robots carrying guns in Iraq?

According to /.

"Robots have been roaming Iraq, since shortly after the war began. Now, for the first time — the first time in any war zone — the 'bots are carrying guns. The SWORDS robots, armed with M249 machine guns, "haven't fired their weapons yet," an Army official says. "But that'll be happening soon." The machines have actually been ready for a while, but safety concerns kept them off the battlefield. Now, the robots have kill switches, so "now we can kill the unit if it goes crazy," according to the Army. I feel safer already."

Can this be confirmed?

Wouldn´t suprise me at all, but I think it should be made clear these arn´t "terminator" type robots. Probably some small tracked vehicle like the Mars lander.

With a big gun. Edd 209.

Not surprising at all, they have been using robots for awhile most with non-lethal force.

All with non lethal force till these. That's the difference.

😆

All most all of them were designed to carry lethal force but normal use of them and testing required non-lethal. They have already been using the M777A2 which is a robotic howitzer as for the SWORDS they have already been using them for recon it just now armed which I don’t see a problem with really.

I knew the US army would do this soon. They've been working on the idea for a while (since the 70's) and it just shows how shit this world is getting. Bring on World War 3.

Scarey.

I'm not sure which president came up with it, though. Probably the guy after Nixon.

Grey goo would be cool. But nothing would inspire shock and awe as much as flattening Pakistani mountains with Dark Star talking bombs.

i was thinking more about the 16 000 000 000 000 000 spy camera reciever devices that can be held in the palm of a person's hand 🙂

or even a military application of cranial magnetic stimulation, to induce seizures or other things with electronic pulses 🙂🙂
