Pat was taken aback by this realization. This girl was a dirty Reb whore, the spawn of the same scum who had killed most of his beloved friends from the Irish Brigade at Gettysburg. But then he came to his senses and understood that this girl had turned to booze to soothe her sorrows after her father and brothers deaths.
"Well Dolly, I know your pain. I lost many friends in the War, too many in fact. But even after the death of some of my best friends, i never turned to booze to solve it, i just accepted it, and let it pass."
It was a lie. Pat had never gotten over the death of his soldiers; thats why he went out West, to get away from the war-torn battlefields of the East. He just hoped that he could get this girl away from the bar.
"Tell ya what, im leaving town in the morning, to go find a huge In-jun treasure. Why not leave your beer here, and come with me. Im sure youd rather be rich and sober than drunk and poor."
