Tell them it was a negative probablity equation that reasserted the dominance of your apathy, despite your best intentions to do otherwise. Very few people can argue with negative probability equations....they're absolute (unless you're dealing with imaginary numbers, in which case the negativity would have to be inverse for the excuse to be valid)
