Anyway.. to be patented anything usually must fulfill the criteria of being useful, novel, non-obvious - which generally precludes things found naturally.
Genes, SNPs etc must generally be isolated and modified in such a manner that they are sufficiently unique from what's found naturally - so no I don't really have a problem with it...
