Most elaborate natural disaster i've ever experienced is wind. With the exception of the 2004 tsumami, i was in Thailand when it hit.

I was the other side of mainland Thailand, it hit Phuket, Pipi (west side), i was across the mainland on the east side, but i was in the ocean at 9am that morning, so if the earthquake had occurred the other side, i would've surely been a gonner.
I didn't see the actual disaster, but i sure saw the aftermath, that part of the world was not a pretty place to be during the new year of 2004/05.
