I need some input for a decision I will be making soon. As you all know, I've had some high performance cars the past few years. One I built up and the other I bought, then built up. I got rid of both because it was too much car for me to drive every day, and the MPG was not good.
I'm a real estate appraiser and drive about 350 miles per week. I bought a beater car last year for work, a 2015 Ford Edge. It's a decent ride but I'm getting to the point where high mileage is going to be an issue.
Since I drive so much I need a vehicle that I can live with and like to drive. My criteria is good performance and at least 30 MPG highway. I've narrowed it down to a 2018 or newer Honda Accord with the 2.0 turbo and 10 speed automatic and the 2020 Ford Escape with the 2.0 turbo and 8 speed automatic.
Both vehicles hit 60 in under 6 seconds. Both are similarly priced. The Accord is slightly faster, better handling and gets a bit better MPG, but I'm not crazy with its looks. The Escape offers the best performance in its class, has more cargo room, has an elevated view and I can get AWD.
Both are similarly priced, except I can buy a used Accord. The Escape is all new for 2020. Thoughts?

I love cars.
You might want to consider a 3rd option, considering you drive 18-19k miles a year for work and want a combo of decent performance, comfort, mpg and reliability,
Get a 2017-18 Honda Accord Hybrid. The combo of gas/electric motor gives you almost the same performance of the 2.0 gas turbo. 5.7 vs 6.7 in the 0-60 department.
But you're going to average 45mpg vs 28mpg, using a gas mileage calculator, you're saving about $630 a year with your mileage. Your brakes will also last longer due to the electric motor taking part of the stopping-power when braking.
If not, I'd go with the Accord 2.0t myself, unless you need the FWD and extra space of the SUV. Honda has a better reliability rating than Ford more times than not.
