The Source didn't help him then because he simply was still alive, and Superman was there to save him...
Unlike the story with Spectre, in which Spectre utterly destroyed Darkseid, in other words, dead, and beyond any means of help, thus, the Source had to interfere and revive him.

To follow your stupid logic: that's in the past (Hunter/Prey 1994) and this is now (Spectre Vol. 4 #19 2002).
