Well I am sorry. Remember that I know squat about Avatar so I winged it.....why can't I manipulate other elements in a useless skill. Calling stones and swirling sand is everthing useful he knows more but very weakly. He called the water to him by heating the air around it simuating small control. Keeping the water mist(spray) in the air near evaporation state but still liquified. 😉 Thats just a theory for both. 😄 Im not happy with this but I dont know if i am allowed to control other elements even fleetingly.....sorry? 🙁
Dudes and dudettes, let me explain how bending works 😄
As you are born, you have a certain bloodlike flow trough your vains. Something I believe is called 'Chi'. This is a contact between the character at matter and the native element that he is born with.
The element is usualy within the elemental circle, but there are people that have succeeded to manipulate the elements into a more wide area. Like water-benders control swampland and like earth-benders control sand 🙂
The cycle is: Water, Earth, Fire and Air.
The reason you can not bend other elements than your own, is because God/Nature/Cosmos/The Spirits only allows one to do so. The Avatar, a person with supreme 'Chi' above all else.
The avatar is the spirit of the world, personified.
You are unfortunatly not allowed to control more than your native element. That is against the laws of the spirits and against the whole balance 😛
The idea is well, but you can not possibly heat water to waterbend. It will simply not work. Knowing the technique is far from enough, as your mind too is effected by the certain 'Chi'. Firebenders has a nature of being fierce. Not even after many many years and years of meditation and focusing, training in another element would not do the trick. The very soul is depended on the native element.
Fire is fierce, Water is kind, Air is free and Earth is strong.
These are four seperate directions of a soul, that can not be effected by any other than the avatar.

Let us say you are on the rooftop. We have seen that even if you fall, firebenders can make a save and shoot flames on the ground. This show signs of vague levitation. Like Airbenders 🙂
A rock falls towards them. With the right amount of flames and in the right control, you can not only stop the rock, but you can throw it back. It is by channeling flames on the rock, almost like a flamethrower 😄
