Not saying that ghost exist, but according to some that say they do, ghosts are energy-based entities, and drain energy from their surroundings to maintain themselves. My idea would be to kill any power-source within miles of a haunted house, and set a trap on the site consisting of a collection of energy dispensers (thermal, electrical, radio etc.) in a nonconducting antistatic plastic cage. Rig it with fluctuation measurements, and shut the trap when you get a readout.
