Making Poverty History!

I was so impressed by this forums thoughts on the AIDs pandemic (a really big epidemic) that I wondered if you could also help "keep the promise". By turning your attention to poverty. How do we solve this issue on both local and global scales?

"They got money for war,
But they ain't got money to feed the poor"

-From "Keep Ya Head Up" by Tupac, referring to the US govt.

The problem with giving money to the poor is that those who give the money feel like they should have some say in how the money is spent. That means that the poor loose their rights to spend the money as they see fit.

Exactly; which is why the keyword is "feed".

True, but how do you do that?

My brother, for most of his life was homeless. He told me, shortly before he died of cancer, what it was like to be homeless. One thing he told me that I was surprised to hear, was that food banks and housing for the homeless where dangerous places that any smart homeless person would stay away from. It seems that they are filled with thugs that will take everything you have and beat you up.

In context, "money is in abundance but the rich can not be rich without many poor people so they just kicking them in the ass." 💃

Poverty is useful. Shouldn't be done away with. Also, why is "Syndrome" not worthy of the same respect as the other words?

Care to expand a little bit on your "poverty is useful" thought? I am interested. (I have an idea of what you mean but I still want to "hear" your idea.)

Well, I didn't mean to be put on the spot, I just wanted to say something offensive.

If I'd have to think about it I would assume that poverty makes the labor cheaper and increases trade by that. So we get cheaper goods...which is good. To me.

However, if the prices of goods went up but the money would be spread out better and a lot of social programs we have in place could be cut.

But the gross overpopulation of the earth in the 20th century makes that seem very idealistic in application.
