The basket lifted up and Rek clambered into the chopper. (We gonna finish this?)

i guess so.))

Kat hovered for a bit and looked back the way they came, she could see something back there. "Oh thank god they got out." She smiled and glanced at Carlos before continuing out of the area.

"Attention all troops. Fall back to pre-determined safe zones. ten minutes."

"All commands, termination in three minutes, repeat, termination in three minutes. All forces have three minutes and twenty seconds to evacuate... This is a message to all commands."

"Final warning to all commands. All troops to safe zones. Thirty seconds till termination."

"Termination. Five minutes till impact!"

"I have places to go and people to see..." Jacob uncoupled his harness and slid down the rope into the landscape below. Before anyone could react, he was gone.

carlos sighed. they had finally cleared the quarantine zone. "hey kat, where do you think the infected go when they die?"

Kat blinked and looked over at Carlos. "Well..... I guess since they didn't get changed on purpose, and since we are killing them off. I guess it would be murder so they would go to heaven if you believe in it.... I don't know that's just my thought. What do you think?"

" i guess. but it really isnt murder because we do it to save everyone who isnt infected. right?" he turned towards her.

She smiled and shrugged. "I can't say I know Carlos. I'm just doing my job." She turned back and tapped her com. "Base camp this is Private Kat, do you read?"

Rek took one look over the side then shouted at the plot. "GET US THE HELL OUTTA HERE!!!!!!!!!!!"

"But Jacob..."

"Direct orders. Go!"

***

"Attention all commands. Impact in four minutes. All stations begin lock-down. Procedure Alpha 776"

"This is Alpha-Zulu six-eight-niner. We still read chopper four-two-seven Delta over the target zone."

Rek activated his com. "We're on our way out."

"Copy. Attention all commands. Lock-down complete. Impact in three minutes."

The chopper flew over the tarnished cityscape towards safety. Looking passed one of the marines Rek spotted the missile. He swallowed. Do we always have to cut things so close? The chopper flew along the same heading as Kats.

"Impact in fifteen seconds." Echoed through the com.

Rek waited till the chopped touched the ground before he opened the sliding panel and jumped out with the rest of the marines in tow. He shouted at Kat and Carlos. "Lay down! Shield your eyes!" He attached his helmet and juiced up the suit, switched off everything except oxygen flow and darkened the vizor. He hit the ground hard.

"five...four...three...two..."

Rek placed his faceplate downwards.

"...one...zero!"

A bright white light filled the air followed a feeling of being burned flow up Rek's back. He then felt the ground vibrate and less than a second later the seismic boom and backdraft that actually lifted both choppers and carried them in the air to smash together.

The automic warhead burst on impact and immediatly obliterated everything in its range. Buildings crumbled to dust, the ground evaporated, the air ionized then vacuumized. The light engulfed everything.

wow.... that was cool.))

Kat glanced at Rek and hit the deck as he told her to do. In seconds the white light had engulfed them. She was quiet for a moment, letting the burn sink in, then she muttered a few curses as she heard the choppers crash.

The light retreated and Rek looked up to see the mushroom shaped gray cloud slowly convulse with blue streaks criscrossing orange gray. He slowly stood. 'Warning: Battery will depelete in twenty seconds.' Rek quickly turned off the vizor darkening and lowered the air flow to minimum. 'Two minutes.' Flashed up on the internal LCD. He spoke through the voice filter. "Kat? You okay?" He helped up one of the marines. The burning on his back remained he could have swore the armour plating was red hot, he was beginning to sweat.

Kat opened her eyes and pushed herself to her feet. "I think so... Anyone else feel like their wrapped in tin foil?" She took off her glove and carefully touched her back plate. Yep.. Hot.. Very hot.

"Kat! Radiation!" Rek tapped his own armour plating. "Like being in a microwave." He chuckled and walked over to Kat. "We made it..."

She flinched at what he said about the radiation and slipped her glove back on. For a moment she hadn't heard what he said about making it out, then when it sunk in she turned and looked back at what was the city. "Oh my god.... Oh my god WE MADE IT!" She screamed and jumped into the air. "Oh my god Rek we're alive! I can't believe we made it out!"

"Yup!" He looked at the still rising dust plume and swallowed. I hope Jacobs alright. He thought. He smiled and hugged Kat. "We made it..." He repeated, whispering. The words actually having more meaning to her than him as his suit suddenly proclaimed 'Battery Depeleted' He felt the last whisps of cool filtered air pass over his face and he slowed his breathing and the beating of his heart increased and sounded like a drum beating in his ears.

Kat grinned and hugged ek back, hearing his suit shut down. "Yes... We did.." She pulled away and smiled, taking one last look at the cloud before turning her back to the city. "We better get you back to base so you can get out of that thing. You'll faint from heat stroke without any oxygen."

carlos got up and moved toward them both. he tried to activate his suits auto cooling system but they had failed. he grabbed his rifle and threw it off, realising that it had broken in half. he turned back to them. he tried his radio. "anyone have a working radio?"

(Nope I don't)

Rek's breathing became shallow. He removed two connecting hooks from his suits battery and connected them to the 'QuickFix' Scanner on his arm plate. It's power pack was seperate and he had hardly used the thing. Nothing happened.

Kat looked over at Carlos and nodded. "Mine still works, here." She took off her helmet and tossed it to carlos. "Rek are you alright? Rek?"
