Why wouldn't it?

Yes a vacuum sucks away the heat, but it doesn't leave an item in said vacuum cold either. (If we're talking about a household vacuum.)

Dunno. (If we're talking about space vacuum.)

Wife Swap

Depends on what you consider to be a vacuum, if it is an absence of matter then the minute you put the ice cube in there it wouldn’t be a vacuum. 😛

Even if the ice-cube is the only matter in the setup, it can still be affected by energy coming from outside the vacuum.

Odd.

Very odd.

I can explain it though.

I meant to post in the "What are you watching now thread".

There you have it.

What is a temperature? It is the measure of the average kinetic energy of matter. Ice melts at 0 Celsius. If an ice cube is put into a vacuum with NO electromagnetic radiation interacting with the space in the vacuum in which the ice cube is held...the ice has nothing to get kinetic energy transferred from and will not melt...

Then, there is sublimation. Water ices are known to sublimate.

If this is school work, then you should probably check to see how "smart" the class is you are in. The point of the question may be trying to get you to realize that an ice cube will not melt if there is no kinetic energy being transferred to it.

They may also be trying to get you to realize that sublimation exists so the answer is yes and no...depending on what the question was trying to get at but in the real world, the answer is yes because sublimation occurs with water ices.
