El Grito 2007! Celebrating Mexico's Independence
Get some culture up your ass. Tomorrow, September 16th, my culture celebrates Mexico's War of Independence. The war that took place between 1810-1821 between the people of Mexico and Spanish colonial authorities, which started on September 16, 1810. The Mexican War of Independence movement was led by Mexican-born Spaniards and mestizos who sought independence from Spain. It started as an idealistic peasants' rebellion against their colonial masters, but finally ended as an unlikely alliance between liberals and conservatives.
We celebrate these days by joining with friends and family and makin' sure we eat good and celebrate the prosperity of our humble culture. Most places designate "un grito" as a means of celebrating. 'un' meaning 'one' and 'grito' meaning 'scream', this war cry was adapted from the brave souls who fought in Mexico's War of Independence. So tomorrow night, give a good scream, it's good for your lungs.
Here on KMC, we'll be celebrating the way most current cultures do. By telling eachother "Feliz Dia De La Independencia" and giving our kids, be it sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, anyone one that's a child a hug to let them know all was not forgotten for the Mexican War of Independence was partly won for them. Let them know how great their future is going to be. So to all, Feliz Dia De Independencia A Todos!
