Quotes from General Sherman:
[W]e will remove and destroy every obstacle…take every life, every acre of land, every particle of property, every thing that to us seems proper… I would not coax [the South], or even meet them half-way, but make them so sick of war that generations would pass away before they would again appeal to it.
I confess, without shame, that I am sick and tired of fighting—its glory is all moonshine; even success the most brilliant is over dead and mangled bodies, with the anguish and lamentations of distant families, appealing to me for sons, husbands, and fathers ... it is only those who have never heard a shot, never heard the shriek and groans of the wounded and lacerated ... that cry aloud for more blood, more vengeance, more desolation.

In this crooked society/world, the only person you can really count on is yourself. I may regret certain things I've done, or I might look back at them with pride in myself, and I look back at all those things in the past for advice, rather asking people for advice. It may sound conceited, but if you really knew me, you'd know I'm not. It's hard to explain, but I'm sure you can understand.
