Does a thread have to have a topic for people to discuss it?

Does a thread have to have a topic for people to discuss it?

I've noticed here that many of the threads are not even off topic. They are basically gibberish and yet people discuss them as though they understand what the thread starter is talking about. Why is this?

I have my own ideas but i'm interested in yours.

Care to name a few examples?

Those three threads having now read them appear highly sophisticated in comparison to most on this forum. Obviously past members were more intelligent.

They sure were 🙂

GTFO WHIRLY

Yes.

Otherwise there is no 'it'.

For a discussion IN a thread, you don't exactly need the thread to have a point, you just need at a member to state something, nearly anything, whether off topic or not, and there will be a discussion.

I think your on Off Topic when you said this one...This is for General Discussion....everybody can write and post to bulletin any comments, topic etc..

I would disagree can the thread itself not become the it being discussed rather than a specified topic? As I find few threads here really have a focus, peoples general opinions therefore supercede the title.

it is...

If I'm reading this correctly, you're complaining that many of the threads are on-topic.

Wouldn't the thread itself be the topic then?

No, botankus, if you read on the implication is they are beyond off topic. Now stop trying to be clever. It doesn't suit you.

Indeed it would, meaning the the thread doesn't need an initial input to create a percieved outcome. It is the posters application that leads to a thread justification rather than a threads intention.

e.g. Big Brother.......

I don't understand how Big Brother applies, but I agree that threaddoes not need to state a topic initially for there to be topics present in it.

You do need a topic for it to be discussed though. By...logic.

Ahh, but does it or can people just post random thoughts. I'm sure you see where this is going?

Each individual post has a topic in a way.

And no, not sure where you are going.

Since there is a topic.
