No records are kept of sexual assaults on inmates in the U.K. prison system

By having your liberty removed does that make felons fair gain for sexual predators?

Do people in for minor offences deserve to be sexually assaulted. This applies to male and female prisoners.

Thoughts. I'm especially interested to hear from anyone or is or knows criminals or they themselves have been "inside". Experiences please.

As a crime, sexual assault charges must be brought by the victim. I highly doubt that many victims of sexual assault in prison report the charge, and if they did, formal charges would be laid.

What scenario are you thinking about?

In many cases in recent years, when a prisoner makes an allegation of sexual abuse/rape, they often end up being removed from the prison the were in, and often the abuser stays behind, leaving the ‘victim’ more traumatised by the whole sordid event.

I wasn't think of a specific scenario. Please tell me your experiences animalist.

Ive never been to prison, no real experience there

that sounds somewhat dumb, though im sure pragmatic...

Prisons are a mess anyways, are there lots of gangs in UK detention centers?

From what i've read England doesn't have the problems america has, but it is an issue.

I think America has more of a problem because of it's historical attitude to human rights and incarceration. The U.K. and Canada are more civilised.

Exactly. We are civilised as are most European nations and New Zealand. The jury is out on most Australians i've met.

I believe it's all lies to encourage people not to go to prison.

I'm sure it is, but should it happen? Shouldn't prisoners also have rights?

Well, I don't think people should be in prison. Isolating people from society getting tips from other criminals isn't really the best way to stop anti-social behaviour.

thats a little idealistic

where do Ted Bundy or members of organized crime go?

I agree for the most part, but there are definatly people who deserve to be locked away from the rest of society

Then only lock them up.

I agree apart from dangerous criminals locking people up is not the answer. We have the highest lock up rate in Europe and the highest crime.
