Video Blog: The Blind & The Dead

Well, we outlined the conceptual reasons for not liking it above, which are all quite valid. But a big part of it is probably also that in posting these things you're tacitly endorsing statements and positions of belief that are erroneous, at best, and often times in defiance of science and reason, and also derogatory toward a large number of groups or persons on the planet. My rebuttal to the WLC videos is an example of the problems.

But it's still just copy/paste laziness, when a few paragraphs would give it both personal relevance as well as waste less time for those who would want to actually respond, but don't feel like watching lengthy videos.

Now for those that don't feel like watching the movies are basically asking these questions:

1) How do people feel the large movement in many Christian denominations emphasizing the spiritual gifts, especially speaking in tongues as compares to what the Bible says on the matter?

2) What are the implications of all the money going into certain ministries as it pertains to a) the Bible and b) North American society?

Thanks. And no, I don't know....though I always assumed you were a little bit older than me. I honestly don't really think about ages much, especially on this forum...peoples' arguments stand or fall on their intellectual merits, rather than the age or maturity level of the poster.

Number 1 is highly subjective. The fact that different denominations see the issue wildly differently than others is proof of this, and no real consensus can be determined, since each person's interpretation is his/her own, and refutations can be found due to the vague nature of many passages.

And if number 2 is indeed summarized so succintly, he didn't need to post an hour's worth of videos to start the discussion.

He didn't. I did it for him because he apparently didn't feel like it and I got tired of the page of posts that said "Blargh stop posting videos like a n00b".

Talk about making a mountain out of an ant hill! Tacitly endorsing? Erroneous at best? Often times in defiance of science and reason? Derogatory toward a large number of groups or persons on the planet? What in the world are you talking about?!

Laziness?! I'm stating it for the 3rd time now: I WANTED TO SHARE THE "VIDEO!" The same applied to William Lane Craig! You are blowing this way out of proportion; drop it! You are being incredibly difficult!

...you've obviously forgotten my utter displeasure with the WLC videos, and my responses to it. And then also how you refused to admit that he was overtly bashing atheism and attacking atheists, which could only come from someone blinded enough to look past the hatred in the message and hear exactly what they want to endorse their beliefs. The same sorts of things happen in these videos...they just find different groups to pick on.

For those of you who have viewed the presentation by William Lane Craig that I posted, you already know that DigiMark007 has unsubstantiated views; DigiMark007 "himself" knows this, but is fueled by stubborn pride. Hence the reason I asked his age. We are all entitled to forming (and voicing) our opinions. In doing so, however, we need to honest. And DigiMark007 certainly has not. Who is "they" anyway?!

DigiMark007 is simply upset with William Lane Craig--simply because the man has a different view on the origin of life, morality, and other choice subjects. Never did William Lane Craig "bash" and "attack" atheists as DigiMark007 proposes. He never even raised his voice. I have nothing to admit! William Lane Craig merely gave an organized, articulated presentation of his views in a calm fashion (with what time he had).

In any case, the videos (which I did watch) single out the speaking in tongues pehnomenon and attack it because their particular denomination doesn't agree with it. They go so far as to suggest demonic posession. Bible verses can be found to endorse ANY viewpoint, so the speaking-in-tongues people, while weird, are no less justified than their attackers.

But instead of discussing possible reasons for these peoples' actions, and suggesting positive ways to change or unite the two ways of thinking, they blanketly condemn groups of Christianity and insinuate that they are ungodly and Satanic. Nice Christ-like behavior.

In a word, hatred. By the people spreading it, it never seems like this is what it is....but to an objective observer, the message is downright scary. They naively spout their "righteous" doctrine, content that they are right and others are wrong, never genuinely reaching out to spread messages of love.

Ushome, everything I say in threads I discuss personally and back with some form of reasoning. If ever my views are unsubstantiated with lack of evidence or reason, please show me where and why, and I will be happy to either explain myself or reconsider my thinking. I find it hard to believe that you are as exacting when you can post hour-long videos, with hundreds of different points in them, and simply "ok" all of it. Especially when the messages promote only a cerrtain viewpoint and have disdain toward others....and WLC doesn't need to raise his voice to attack. He does so by falsely representing atheism, and attempting to undermine the moral credibility of such groups of people. If I were to attend such a rally, I would be torn between standing up and speaking out in an attempt to help them see things in a more humane light, and conversely just running away because my words would likely fall on deaf ears and I would be afraid for my personal well-being from the group's reaction.

The fact that you are a proponent of such ways of thinking scares me just as much, and your words do nothing to allay my fears, because I know that these events and ways of thinking aren't obscure and niche-related, but mainstream and accepted by many.
