cable "went down with the ship," protecting providence from falling into enemy hands [presumably sinister's, i don't recall] when gambit and sunfire attacked. they didn't kill him. as i recall, he beat 'em up, and they seemed to go down with him. they've since been seen alive, however, so who really knows what's going to come post-messiah complex/post-disassembled.
