In my opinion, Superman would defeat most of the characters name on the Topic name. Characters like Hulk, Gladiator, Hyperion, and other lack something that would make them lose.
Lets take Hulk as an example. He is strong, very fast, and durable. However, he can't fly and he can't fight and supersonic speed. In addition, he can breath in space, or hold his breath for a long time. Because of this I don't believe that Hulk would beat him. As for the other characters, they also lack some kind of super human attributes.
The only character I think that can defeat the current Superman is Thor. He has speed, he has power, he has durability, he can fly, and he most of all has Magic. Although, Superman did defeat him in the crossover(years ago) I don't think it was "real".
A more intresting fight would be King Thor(I believe thats his name) after getting the Odin Force against the one and only Golden Superman who has the green lantern ring. I don't know any information on King Thor though, but I did see a scan of him killing like Odin himself

Because if he didn't get beaten there'd be no drama, you idiot. Every character gets beaten or there'd be no dramatic tension. Every EVERY, and I repeat once more E V E R Y hero MUST get beaten in order to increase tension when the inevitable re-match occurs. This is true for comic books, movies, TV shows, novels...
Superman is still up there as the toughest but imho I think Hulk, Gladiator, Hyperion should be able to beat him. Hulk, just because he can be a mean SOB. Hyperion and Gladiator because they're DC analogues of silver age Superman and nobody could beat him.

You're right there. They are pale imitations. Roy Thomas (Squadron Supreme) and Chris Claremont (Imperial Guard) created them to be an imitation/parody of the JLA and Legion of Superheroes respectively. But back then Superman (and Superboy) could do anything. Unless they've changed his power levels up (up and away) again, he should be nowhere near the 'moving the moon' level.
And you're probably right about the Hulk too. I just think it'd be more interesting to have a Superman who could hurt a bit.
I won't even ask about Sentry. That 'character' really is just plain crap.

Has it ever occured to you that Bat Man doesn't get slapped around like Supes? No super powers and yet he doesn't lose fights like Supes does and guess what..who needs drama anyway....sounds to me your a drama queen since you so boldly mentioned DRAMA.
