Yeah that is true, but in the book you don't find out for a while, they are in hiding because the mutants want to eat them.

No suprises there...alot of people say the mutants are like vampires/zombies

In the book they are mutants.

I know they are mutants...but they have the....characteristics of a zombie...such as eating people...and one of the weaknesses of a vampire which is sunlight or strong lights

I see, I think the sunlight is because of there mutation and how there skin reacts with it.

They are very pale...so their skin may not be able to handle it

Yeah they eat the flesh to survive but to also build up there strength in the book, they start eating people so that they may walk the earth at all hours.

Did he have a dog in the book?

Sort of, he traps and befriends it, but it dies of the virus.
