I starts off with a new, orginal group of Digidestined getting transported to the Digital World by Lord HolyAngemon to defeat a group called the "Dark Knights". Naturally, the Dark Knights are the viral counterparts of the "Royal Knights". Upon arriving, the Digidestined head to Holy Angel Castle (each managing to reach the Champion level in the process). From there, they try to reach the Ultimate level so that they can stand a chance against the Dark Knights.
Shall I continue?
(Most locations and Digimon are offical parts of the series.
Lord HolyAngemon and Holy Angel Castle, as well as the Royal Knights are real FYI. The Royal Knights, however, are the only ones to make it to the TV series.)

While trying to reach the Ultimate level, the Digidestined manage to find three more Digidestined who were already in the Digital World (this makes a total of 12 Digidestined) and defeat several of the lesser Dark Knights. This forces the Dark Knights, Digidestined, and Royal Knights to face off numerous times (with the Digidestined barely escaping without assistance from a Royal Knight, even if the assistance wasn't intentional). Soon the Digidestined reach the Mega level and begin to put up a relatively good fight against the Dark Knight, defeating all but five (13 Dark Knights in total).

Realising that only 6 (Forgot a person) members are left due to the Digidestined as well as the increased activity from the Royal Knights, the remaining Dark Knights (Black WarGreymon, Chaos Gallantmon, Black Rapidmon, Black MetalGarurumon, and Beelzemon. Check Wikipedia if you don't know who they are) decide to put an end to the Digidestined the easiest way they know. This is to destroy the human rather then his/her Digimon partner. This proves unsuccessful, resulting in Black Rapidmons destruction. After a few more battles, Black WarGreymon and Black MetalGarurumon (the two leaders of the Dark Knights) are defeated by the Digidestined and Omnimon.

Part 2
After defeating the leader of the Dark Knights, the Digidestined prepare to defeat the remaining underlings of the Dark Knights. Unknown to them, Chaos Gallantmon assumed control of the Dark Knights and managed to save both Black WarGreymon and Black MetalGarurumons Data in the form of Digi-eggs (which he intrusts to the somewhat untrustworthy Beelzemon). While the Digidestined are away from HolyAngel Castle, Chaos Gallantmon and Beelzemon (who managed to finally obtain Blast mode) destroy Lord HolyAngemon. For their safety, the Digidestined are returned to Earth. While in the Digital World, Chaos Gallantmon manages to resurrect all the fallen Dark Knights (except Black WarGreymon & Black MetalGarurumon) and continue their conquest of the Digital World. Without help from the Digidestined, and seemingly abandoned by Yggdrasil (creator of the Royal Knights) the Royal Knights can barely hold off the Dark Knights who are once again at full strength while they are still weak from the previous fight.
