Yep. Declare that you like that song (let alone mention it's name) and you were most likely to be accused of witchcraft and burned at the stake.
Sorry I know this post may be old but a few songs to me jump to mind.
Black Day In July-Gordon Lightfoot
One In A Million- Guns N Roses
Mack The Knife- Bobby Darin
Sympathy For The Devil- Rolling Stones
The Ballad Of Ira Hayes- Johnny Cash
Ohio- Crosby Stills Nash And Young
Apartment 213-Macabre
Actually Everything Macabre has done Should be CONTROVERSIAL.
Controversial in the traditional sense, I'd put 'Mark of the Beast' pretty high.
Controversial by my standards, probably F*ck the Police and Imagine. F*ck the Police was a starting point for anti-rap crusades, ad Imagine just spit in the face of the established belief systems without coming off gimmicky.
I've gone through the entire thread, and I want to know why this Hilaro chick's song is so controversial, too. Hasn't happened.
I'd say a few, which have also been mentioned in this thread:
Imagine
I Don't Like Mondays
I'd also say Happy Christmas (War Is Over) perhaps not because it's controversial, because I really don't know if it was, just it seemed a very significant song at the time of it's release, and also one of my favourites. 🙂
